We no longer offer energy audits to our clients since the housing market activity has picked up significantly. My friend Jim Maletta with North Star Energy would be an excellent choice. His number is 414- 543-1099. Focus on Energy offer some healthy rebates and incentives if you use an approved contractor. Jim can fill you in about all of that.
What you find out about on an energy audit:
This older home was "totally renovated" New drywall with no attic hatch. No attic access is usually a red flag! The owners wondered why they had some heating bills over $400.00.
Many time contractors use cheap can lights that are not rated for insulation contact and are not air sealed. Essentially they are pulling warm conditioned air out of your living space into the attic and may cause mold and assist in formation of ice dams.
These areas are usually open to the attic and is an uninsulated area. This is why your dishes are as cold as ice in the winter!
Our thermal cameras will often determine poorly insulated walls
Attic hatches are typically not insulated nor weather-stripped. Lots of warm air from the conditioned space moves into the attic.
